Episode 19 : August 1989

Greetings Starhunters!

We're back with a new episode.  For your listening pleasure Episode 19 : August 1989.

This month we're looking at the books released in "July" of 1989.  That month is in quotes, as not every book came out in July... Let's get to that...

First up, we look briefly at Flash 35 where our buddy Mark Shaw, Manhunter makes an appearance, in helping to look for Wally West.

This book didn't go on sell until December of 1989, but due to the arc starting in Manhunter, this story would have to take place at this point.

This story is continued from Flash #34.

This story reveals that there are two Turtles. The original Turtle is the mastermind of the gang and a former foe of Jay Garrick. The Turtle Man was a foe of Barry Allen and was later disfigured in a lab accident.

Synopsis: (from Mike’s Amazing World of Comics)

Mark Shaw is taken to a Yakuza leader following his battle with Dumas in Japan. Eiji Hasegawa explains the debt he owes to Mark's stepfather Eliot for saving the life of his wife years earlier. Hasegawa then helps to smuggle Mark out of the country and back to America.
Dumas does not want to fight the Yakuza, so he waits until Mark is back in America to renew their fight. He kidnaps Mark's mother and uses her as a hostage. Mark and his family all come to her aid. Mark's brother is injured in the fight in which Dumas escapes, but they are successful in rescuing Rose Shaw.
